Wedding or Elopement in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, wedding planning by Artaud and Co.

Service - Full Planning // 11 months, Bare Bones Venue and Styling

An incredible winter wedding! Snow on Mount Wellington, ladies in furs, bustling Salamanca Markets and plenty of winter sun! A wedding mixed with both Tassie and Adelaide produce, the two home states of our lovely couple.

A beautiful journey for which I will remember always. I assisted Liesl and Luke with Full wedding planning for 11 months. The planning which included budget preparation and management, a lot of advice and keeping Liesl calm, Venue and Vendor selection and correspondence, creation of wedding timeline, venue visitations, on day coordination, ceremony coordination, music management and more. I also arrange Styling and the coordination and setup of the Long Gallery which is a bare bones venue.

Liesl and Luke’s brief for their day was a classy non-traditional cocktail party, indoor ceremony, a focus on Tasmanian produce, warm winter tones, and a full dance floor! This hard working couple in the lead up were not only working full time but renovating a 2nd house, their own bathroom and building a bar for their wedding! They deserved a fabulous party.

The planning was fun, detailed and Liesl had unlimited contact with me. There was countless emails, text messages, meetings and around 200 hours of work to tie this beautiful day together. We built a team of talented people and trusted in each one, and they certainly delivered. There were also many vendors involved being a bare bones venue. The space came completely bare, we required a bar, furniture, glassware, beverages, fridge, staff and more!

The Long Gallery is a stunning space, on the second level of the Salamanca Arts centre. With 180 year old floorboards stretching for 30 metres, lime washed sandstone walls, oaked columns, French doors opening up onto Salamanca, it was a beautiful blank canvas! It was a fantastic location for the interstate and international guests with close accommodation, and perfect for the couple and bridal party to enjoy pre ceremony photographs on the Hobart waterfront, Kelly Steps and Battery Point. One of my favourite images is Liesl and her maids walking through the market stalls to get to the ceremony, looking so incredibly classy in their furs and velvet burgundy bridesmaids dresses.

We worked on an intimate cocktail floorplan with casual seating and little nooks for guests to be comfortable in. The gorgeous very functional bar was designed and built by Luke, the groom, and painted by Liesl! The feature in the centre of the room was a cheese harvest table (with suspended garden and festoon lighting) designed by the talented and outdoor wild chef- Miss Sarah Glover (Chef, Pastry Chef, Outdoor Catering). Recently returning to her home state from Sydney, Sarah and her team crafted a table full of delicious Bruny Island Cheeses, Pigeon Hole breads, dips, charcuterie, vegetables and more. The evening then progressed with more substantial handheld meals- fire hung lamb, chicken tacos, cosmic beef and pork burgers and fish polpettas. To finish was a dessert table- Chocolate mousse and olive oil, salt and sweet Cecil, and Burnt white chocolate and elderflower meringue mess!

Liesl, originally from Adelaide, wished to incorporate some of the beautiful Alpha Box and Dice wines from Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale into their special day.

The styling was modern- timber and white bar tables, indoor plants, stools and lounges, festoon lighting, acrylic plinths, plenty of candlelight and gorgeous rich florals by Flora Gondwana. A fantastic collaboration with a hanging garden feature, and crystal vases and floral stands full of roses, ivy, pepper berry, blushing bride, lisianthus, proteas, spinning gum, ruscus, and jasmine.

Liesl and Luke’s very special ceremony was conducted by a close friend Phil Perkins, and official celebrant Jessie Poke. Memories that they will treasure forever.

Speeches were witty, heartfelt and fun, tummies were full of great Tasmanian produce, and the dancefloor was a wild affair! Nick from Hum DJ’s was a true professional and knew how to create a great party vibe after 9 for this awesome group of people.

This day was beautifully captured by Evan Bailey from Adelaide along with wife Kate (This Modern Love) Videography. I must say, I cried through this whole video! WOW! Huge grins were captured throughout this whole day and they certainly looked the part- Liesl wore The Jane gown by Caleche bridal, the ladies in custom velvet burgundy gowns also from Caleche and the gents suits from Routleys in Hobart. Elegant makeup by Liv Rodgers and Hair by Ben O’Brien- these two are a certainly a force!!

This wedding will stay in my heart forever. Liesl and Luke, you were absolute dream clients, and your wedding was the most amazing weekend I will treasure for many years to come. I hope you loved every moment.
